‘Connect One’ Singles Ministry Thriving

By Brian Hobbs | May 12, 2008

When Randy Davis stepped into the role of Quail Springs Baptist’s Minister to Single Adults a few years ago, the department had two classes and a handful of committed single adults. Today, that number of classes has tripled and is bursting forth with people.

The Single Adults Ministry at QSBC is rapidly growing, and offers classes tailored to every age and stage. Sharon Wallace helps lead, “Together with Christ,” a class for ages 50 and up.

“We have a unique blend of Godly people,” said Wallace. “Our class includes those who are parents, grandparents, working, retired, and more.”

Wallace said a special emphasis of their class is Christlike-service. “Whether it be volunteering at the Baptist Mission Center or helping raise funds for a school in Tanzania, Africa, it is our desire to pool our time and talents toward serving God.”

QSBC member Chris Doyle, meanwhile, is introducing a new Sunday school class. “Real Life” is a connection group focusing on single adults in their 40s.

“My wife Karen and I are excited about beginning this class,” Doyle said. “We named it ‘Real Life’ based on John 10:10 which has Jesus speaking in The Message, ‘I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.’ What we intend to do when we meet together is apply what Jesus means about providing real life to real life experiences.”

Both Sunday School periods at QSBC feature three single adult classes each. Along with “Together in Christ” and “Real Life,” the “Above and Beyond” class, led by Clint Cobb and James Hastings for singles aged 20s and 30s, begin at 9:30 a.m.

The 11 o’clock hour has the GAP class (Graduates and Professionals), led by Kate Downing and Jason Stephenson, for singles in their 20s; “In The Light,” led by Vella Fogerty, Stephanie Leak and Chad Pecisnosky for singles in their 30s; and “Truth Seekers” led by Randy and his wife Amy, for singles who are 40s and above.

“In addition to our Bible study classes, we have special programs for single moms and dads, as well as our Divorce Care,” said Davis. “We have opportunities for worship, Bible study, fellowships, recreation activities, retreats and much more.”
