New QSBC Prayer Ministry to Launch

By Brian Hobbs | December 19, 2007

In the first part of 2007, QSBC Senior Pastor Dr. Hance Dilbeck formed a group of church members who were interested in expanding the church’s emphasis on prayer.

The group included Paula Corley, David Marks, Von Nix, Gydel Porter, Brent Salgat, and Melanie Schantz.

“I asked this team of praying people to begin to dream about a more organized and comprehensive prayer ministry for QSBC,” Dilbeck said. “Their initial focus is on beginning the Upper Room Prayer Ministry with the ultimate goal of a 24-hour prayer ministry.”

The new ministry launch will also coincide with the church’s year-long theme on prayer.
“2008 will be the year of prayer for QSBC, and establishing the Upper Room  Prayer Ministry serves as a cornerstone of that theme,” he said. “Beginning early in 2008, everyone will have an opportunity to express interest in participating in the upper room prayer ministry.”

The mission of the ministry is to “glorify God, undergrid the members and ministries of His church in prayer, and lead believers to a deeper, more intimate walk with God.”

As part of the “A Work of Heart” construction project, there will be a dedicated prayer room located in the north hallway, where the pastor’s office was originally located.

The Upper Room prayer room will be a sanctified place, specially prepared and set aside for the sacred purpose of pleading with God for the needs of our church, our community, our nation, and our world,” prayer team member Paula Corley said.

Gydel Porter will serve as the coordinator of the Upper Room Prayer Ministry, according to Dilbeck. As coordinator she will lead in recruiting, training and organizing participants for the prayer ministry.

In Luke 22, we learn Jesus went out of His way to set aside the Upper Room to observe the Passover and to pray with His disciples,” said Porter. “In the QSBC Upper Room Prayer Ministry, we will have the opportunity to close the door to distractions and open our hearts to the Lord — pouring ourselves out in prayer.”

David Marks echoes Porter’s comments saying, “Prayer is one of the easiest, but most important, avenues of developing a deeper, more powerful walk with God. The Upper Room Prayer Ministry is a way to facilitate a consistent time and place to spend time communicating with our Heavenly Father.”
